The third annual Sydney Architecture Festival will be held on Monday 5 October 2009.  Last year's event attracted over 6,000 participants.

The Festival provides thought provoking new perspectives on Sydney by developing the community's appreciation and enjoyment of good architecture and communicating the importance of good design in achieving a sustainable, healthy and culturally rich built environment. > more

Forecourt Installations Project

Staff and Masters students at the University of Sydney Faculty of Architecture, Design and Planning constructed the UltraFAB Pavilion as part of an intensive educational course in digital design and fabrication techniques.

The Pavilion was a site specific work constructed in the Architecture Faculty’s forecourt and was an experimental project intended to explore the potential and the limitations of current digital modeling and fabrication processes. The design of the Pavilion was aided by digital techniques and finished by hand and power tools using untreated pine.

The design also incorporates an interactive lighting system of halogens and LED lights, which bring the Pavilion to life at night time. From the 27th September – 10th October, as a part of Sydney Architecture Festival 2009 and World Architecture Day, presented by the Australian Architecture Association, the Australian Institute of Architects NSW Chapter and the NSW Architects Registration Board, the Pavilion will be relocated to center of Customs House Forecourt, as UltraFAB2, so that it can be utilized and enjoyed by the general public.

The DARCH Bar dinner party brought to the Sydney Architecture Festival in association with DARCH and Tony Bilson.

A program of great conversations over 4 nights- at the Number One Wine Bar.


HOW DOES THIS VERY SPECIAL SERIES OF EVENINGS WORK? 

Each night a member of DARCH will introduce a guest who will begin the conversation on each theme, they might recite a poem, play a tune, show a film, or espouse their wisdom. The possibilities are endless.
