About the Festival

The fourth annual Sydney Architecture Festival starts from 20 October 2010.  Last year 4,500 people attended the activities at Customs House.

The Festival provides thought provoking new perspectives on Sydney by developing the community's appreciation and enjoyment of good architecture and communicating the importance of good design in achieving a sustainable, healthy and culturally rich built environment. > more

Audio Design Museum

Object has worked with independent curators and local designers to create a series of guided audio tours that lead listeners on a trail of the best design and creativity hotspots in Australia’s east coast capital cities.

The tours will be available for free download as podcasts for iPods, iPhones and mp3 players from www.audiodesignmuseum.com.

The podcasts are narrated with personal anecdotes and stories from 100 local designers and include supporting maps and imagery.

Architecture Film Day at the State Library

From the extensive collection of documentaries held by the State Library of New South Wales, enjoy a day of Architecture Films featuring:

Taringa 4068

... traces the shape of a life and death in an Australian suburb through several generations of one family.  Award winning architect Rex Addison and partner writer Susan Addison describe the genesis of homes they have created for themselves and their children.

Skyer=clouds: Joern Utzon

In this  Danish documentary, Utzon gives his first television interview for 20 years.

Gaudi: to a dancing god

Looking at Gaudi's distinctive style, this documentary explores in detail Gaudi's use of primary material to create structural and decorative buildings.

Frank Lloyd Wright

This two part profile tells the story of a man whose extraordinary life and revolutionary designs offer insights into both the history of architecture and the broader sweep of history from the 1860s to the 1950s.

Peter Stutchbury Book Launch

With an introduction from Rick Joy, this new monograph features Peter Stutchbury's most significant projects each demonstrating Stutchbury's profound knowledge of construction, materials, site and context.

Each project is documented with formal drawings, concept sketches and project descriptions and illustrated by colour and duotone photograpsh taken by Patrick Bingham Hall.

Open Studio and Practice Expo

Ever wondered what an architect's office looks like, or how architectural concepts are conceived? The Sydney Architecture Festival provides an opportunity to visit architects' offices and find out how the design process actually works. You will be able to speak to some of the staff in these leading practices and find out the answers to all the questions you have every wanted to ask about architecture. Many of the practices will also have on display models & images of their award winning projects.
